Have you ever been excited to clean your house? Have you ever jumped out of bed in the morning, ready to tackle your Spring Cleaning To Do list?
If you’re like a lot of people, the idea of spending your down time deep cleaning your house doesn’t seem very appealing.
There are other things you’d much rather be doing. However, regularly cleaning your house is a priority if you want to stay healthy, happy, and stress-free at home.
Today, you’ll find out how to clean room by room without going crazy. In fact, you might even find that you actually enjoy it.
Getting Started Before Deep the Cleaning House
There are some things that you should get done before diving headfirst into a deep clean of the house. If you try to get started right away, you’ll find yourself feeling overwhelmed and won’t get very far.
The first step to deep cleaning your home is to do a light clean. It’s crucial to pick up any items off of the floor or on top of surfaces, so that you can easily get to any areas that need deep cleaned.
Next, you should figure out a game plan. Plan out which rooms you’re going to take care of, and when you’re going to do each one. You most likely will need multiple days or weeks to get each room finished, so keep that in mind!
Finally, you’ll want to make sure that you have everything you need before you get started. We suggest making sure you have the following supplies:
Broom Window/glass cleaner Baking soda Wood cleaner Cleaning caddy Vacuum with extension accessories Brush with stiff bristles White vinegar Dusting cloths, preferably microfiber Sponges Dish soap Telescoping pole Gloves Mop Garden hose, if you’re taking care of the yard Multi-purpose cleaner Mineral oil Lint roller Deep Cleaning Your House – Your Deep Cleaning Checklist
To ensure you clean the entire house as thoroughly as possible – and enjoy the process as you go – it’s important to keep a deep cleaning house checklist.
This list will show you how to clean room by room in a way that is both thorough and efficient. Because, let’s face it, even those of us who love cleaning don’t want to be stuck doing it for longer than we have to.
1. Your Kitchen and Dining Room
Your kitchen should be fairly clean to begin with if you clean up after you eat and prepare your food each day. Therefore, deep cleaning time can be spent on the larger appliances and in the nooks and crannies.
This is the time to take everything out of your refrigerator and wipe it down with warm, soapy water. Don’t forget to wipe down the outside and top as well.
Run the self-cleaning feature on your oven. If you don’t have this feature, use a cleanser like Easy Off, and then add some foil to the bottom of the oven to catch spills in the future.
It’s easy for dust to accumulate behind jars, appliances, and knickknacks. Take everything off of your counters and wipe down.
In both the kitchen and dining areas, take a brook or cobweb sweeper and sweep the ceiling and corners of the room. Mop the floors and/or vacuum.
Finish off by spraying a cozy-scented air freshener that’s reminiscent of baked cookies or apple pie.
2. The Living Room
Now is the time to move your couch and vacuum beneath it. You’ll also want to remove the cushions and vacuum up all of the dust and crumbs inside your couch.
If you have drapes, take them down and wash them. Your blinds should be wiped down with a lightly dampened cloth.
Light fixtures and fans should be wiped down as well. If they are especially grimey, use soapy water or a water-vinegar solution.
If you can’t afford to have your carpets cleaned at this point, sprinkle a carpet freshener on the floor, wait the allotted time, and then vacuum.
3. The Bathrooms
If you only have time to deep clean one room in the house – make it the bathroom. This is the part of the house that builds up scum the easiest and where bacteria and mold like to flourish.
Start by cleaning shower caddies and wiping down soap dispensers, medicine and makeup bottles, and doing a general dusting around the room.
Then, using a bathroom cleaner, clean the tub and shower, taking the time to clean the showerhead with an old toothbrush. The spray and soak technique makes this process faster.
When you clean your toilet, make sure to clean the outside of the bowl as well, and don’t forget to wash the floors.
4. Deep Cleaning the Bedrooms
The bedrooms are the easiest rooms to deep clean, as long as you’ve kept up on them every day. If you haven’t, don’t worry. Simply start off by de-cluttering the bedrooms, throwing away any garbage, and organizing dresser and bedside table drawers.
Then, launder your sheets, blankets, pillowcases, and comforters. Make sure to rotate your mattress to in order to extend its life.
Dust, vacuum, and de-cobweb the bedrooms, making sure to wipe down light fixtures, fans, and window blinds.
Regular Cleaning Keeps Your Family Happy and Healthy
One of the best ways to get some joy out of your deep cleaning process is to remember why you’re doing it.
The main reasons are because keeping your home clean protects you and your family from disease and even from stress.
Studies have shown that a cluttered environment can lead to stress. The home should be a place of peace, a place to get away from the chaos of the outside world. And when your home is nice and clean – it becomes the haven you really want it to be.
Plus, when you spend a little bit of time thoroughly cleaning your home on a regular basis, you actually end up saving time in the long run. You won’t lose items around your house as much because you know that everything is where it is supposed to be.
And of course, you won’t be embarrassed when friends or family members stop by out of the blue. In fact, because your house is wonderfully clean, you’ll welcome them with open arms and actually be able to enjoy your time with them.
